Rey Bermudez, MHSC Master Teaching Artist & Relational Dance Founder "I use music and movement to create relational skill-building experiences for all ages." There are many things that move people, what moves me is a mission to see communities grow closer toward healthy relationships. This includes schools, organizations, corporations, homes, families and everywhere people engage. In my 30 year career in dance, human services and education, I have found a fundamental need for relational skill development for both students and adults alike. We have had examples of healthy relationships, but lack the education needed to sustain them. Relational skills are an aspect of social emotional learning (SEL) got learning and crucial to successful professional development. Relational skills are the bedrock of human existence. Since the pandemic, there has been an increase in loneliness leading to suicide, domestic violence and relational conflicts across communities due in part to undeveloped or underdeveloped skills. So much, the Surgeon General for the United States declared an epidemic of loneliness in May 2023. My work seeks to facilitate conversations at all levels on the urgency of developing healthy relational skills and provide fun, interactive ways to develop said skills. Research shows, many of us retain information when we hear, see and do or practice in real-time to reinforce learning. This is what I offer. A proven skill-building experience using movement that equips individuals with the essential tools for cultivating successful relationships in various facets of life. I call it the Relational Dance. It's movement with a message. Let's talk about moving toward relational health today! |
